Hydropower

Eco Power Holdings Ltd – Generating renewable energy using natural resources

A complete solution provider to harness the power of nature in an environmentally and socially renewable manner. Established in 1997, Eco Power Holdings is Sri Lanka’s single largest mini hydro power company with over two decades of excellence in developing and operating customized hydropower plants to become an internationally sought-after industry leader and project partner with operations extending up to East Africa.

With a clear vision for a renewable green future, Eco Power Group harnesses the optimal potential of small hydropower to generate clean renewable energy at affordable rates, reducing reliance on non-renewable resources. The company also undertakes Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contracts and Operations and Management (O & M) services of power plants for other investors with or without having an ownership stake. Operating eleven hydropower plants in Sri Lanka and Uganda, Eco Power’s objective is to generate renewable energy at cheaper rates with a clear vision for a clean and green future, whilst conserving non-renewable resources and avoiding pollution.

Some even certified by the Executive Board of Kyoto Protocol as being qualified to supply “Carbon Emission Reduction Credits”, all Eco Power Plants are “run of the river” plants (which means that they do not store water and inundate large areas of land or displace any local communities). Eco Power Holdings Ltd. provides the Ceylon Electricity Board with 37 MW of installed generation capacity from its power plants in Sri Lanka which as of 2015 is 12% of the total installed small hydro generation capacity in the country.

Eco Power’s growing contribution to renewable energy in Rwanda and Uganda is as shown below:

  • Ishasha       – Uganda 6.6 MW
  • Rukarara    – Ruwanda 9.2 MW
  • Rwimi         – Uganda 5.5 MW
  • Sironko      – Uganda 7.0 MW

Several other projects amounting to approximately 20 MW is estimated to be added by year 2018, including a new project in Kenya.

At Eco Power all activities are geared towards protecting Mother Earth. The company’s commitment to a greener future does not end with its own operations. Eco Power also offers a comprehensive package of services to investors, helping them build their own Eco-friendly plants.
